Some Social Networks have serious Flaws
So I must be old or something, but all this free beer I get combined with all of the pokes and donkeys and elephants being thrown at me and getting tickled and hugged and kissed and winked at and smacked and bitch slapped and blah blah blah blah blah
That really does nothing for me. It was cute for about 5 minutes, but all those silly quick pushes of a concept take away the creativity of someone saying that or doing that for real.
Its this viral eye for an eye mentality. You poke me and I'll poke you back and that's a good thing?
Seriously, there's a lot of good things with Facebook, but its probably going to crash sooner rather than later because they can't figure out how to make money out of the thing in a cohesive way that still works with the quirky community they have built.
I think this is partly because all those easy add ins have removed the social creativity from the community. It has increased interaction but sucked the life out of content there.
Its like going to a bar and someone buying you a round of air shots.
"Oh, gee thanks for this invisible bottle of air beer, next rounds on me."
Yeah, it gives you a conversation opening, but its an opening with a shallow start often times destined to go no where.
The next incarnation of social networking that takes off will probably have to capitalize on the concept that its not just about "what have you done for me lately" (as you point out what has someone added to our lives lately) but was that addition valuable, useful, heartfelt or just some automated response BS.
Its this weird group mental reach around phenomena. "I'm not really going to really touch your life, but you should appreciate the fact that I'm thinking about really touching your life right now and be thankful, by doing the same for me."
We might as well just play video games solo rather than waste time in environments like that.
imho ;)
